Dr. Juan Aguilar
Founder

Mr. Aguilar was born in Tocopilla, Chile, in 1968. He received his B. in Acoustics degree in 1997 from the School of Acoustical Engineering of the Universidad Austral de Chile. In 2007, he received the degree of Doctor in Engineering Sciences from the Department of Electrical Engineering of the Universidad de Santiago de Chile. Since 2007, he has contributed to the field of acoustic-based gunshot and sniper detection and localization. These include the development of gunfire acoustic signature models and the formulation of acoustic signal processing algorithms for the ballistic trajectory estimation of small-caliber supersonic projectiles.

He has been a faculty member at the Institute of Acoustics, Universidad Austral de Chile, at the University of Chile, and at the University of San Buenaventura in Colombia. Between 2010 and 2013 he conducted research on sniper localization for the U.S. Army International Technology Center – Americas, in Santiago. During 2009 and 2012 was a guest researcher at the Military Polytechnic Academy of the Chilean Army. In 2013 he founded the Laboratorio de Electro Acústica & Procesamiento de Señal to develop their independent professional activities on research and development.

In 2010, his “System for Gunshot Localization” proposal was awarded Honorable Mention by the Chilean Government in the 1st Competition on Innovation in Public Safety “InnovaSeguro”. .
